These drawings involve the subconscious and self-awareness.

I painted a group of these abstract formations on the floor during the same studio sessions.   A couple of people I spoke with concerning this group of paintings (actually were referred to as "drawings" or studies of small subconscious formations which were conducive for my larger abstracts) suggested I take an personal interest in mixing the color black.  So, I did mix the color black in this series.     What exactly is a drawing? This is one of the contemporary questions which inspired this series.

It is ironic how I moved from the east coast to the midwest for graduate school and several of my paintings are reminiscent of the ocean. I am from a mountainous area but have always been drawn to the beach. Nevertheless, one of these paintings, Anchor  really looks like an anchor.  It was shown in  a  National Drawing exhibition behind a glass piece that had mirror clasp devices on the edges holding it together.   (National Drawing 2004, The College Art Gallery, Feb. 25-March 31 (Ewing, NJ)).  I still have to take this painting out of the crate.  However, I did check to see if it was the correct "drawing."  Once I identified this particular painting/drawing as an anchor, the others became apparent.  The others have similar formations. Thus the metamorphic series developed subconsciously. I honestly was not thinking of an anchor. My brain for some reason painted these however. Actually the time I lived in Rhode Island was a special time... but so was this time in the midwest. I believe that are subconscious maps personal and significant events/experiences in our lives through dreams and our actions (whether subconscious or not).   I do believe that life experiences can enhance one's art.
